From Colombia to Atlanta: The Smiles by Mario Montoya Story

Bright dental treatment room featuring clinical equipment and digital technology at Smiles by Mario Montoya

Smiles by Mario Montoya began in Colombia in 2019 with Dr. Mario Montoya's belief that cosmetic dentistry should be designed around the person, not a standard version of a perfect smile.

As U.S. patients traveled for that approach, the brand expanded to Atlanta, where U.S.-licensed dentists now pair that aesthetic philosophy with prosthodontic, implant, surgical, restorative, and general care. An on-site digital lab keeps more of the design and fabrication process close to the dentists treating the case.

What carries forward to Atlanta is both clinical and personal: close attention to how dentistry looks and functions, paired with the warmth of Latin hospitality.

Natural-Looking Dentistry Has Been the Standard From the Beginning

The idea was never to give every cosmetic patient the same bright shade, tooth shape, or version of a perfect smile. If you want a change that still looks like you, that preference should shape the design before the restorations are made.

That means studying proportion, lip movement, profile, tooth character, translucency, and the way the smile moves. It also means respecting function. Cosmetic dentistry still has to work within a real bite, with real muscles, joints, and daily forces.

This balance between aesthetics and function remains central to the brand today.

Why Smiles by Mario Montoya Expanded to Atlanta

The Sandy Springs practice brought that international design philosophy closer to patients in Georgia, with a U.S.-licensed dental team providing prosthodontic, implant, surgical, restorative, and general care locally.

Dr. Mario Montoya remains the Founder and Global Aesthetic Director. He does not provide clinical dental treatment in Georgia. The Atlanta dentists are responsible for examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical care.

That structure preserves the brand’s visual philosophy while placing clinical responsibility exactly where it belongs, with the licensed providers treating the patient.

Latin Hospitality Means Time, Warmth, and Room to Ask Questions

The Colombian roots of Smiles by Mario Montoya also shape how appointments are meant to feel. You should be able to ask a basic question, say that you are nervous, or admit that you do not understand a recommendation without feeling as though you are slowing the visit down.

That matters especially if you have postponed care, had a disappointing dental experience, or are considering a significant investment. We listen first, explain the reasoning behind recommendations, and give you room to decide what feels right before the next step is scheduled.

The setting helps, too. Private treatment spaces overlook a lake and tree-filled surroundings, creating a quieter experience than many patients expect from a dental office.

The Atlanta Lab Keeps Design Decisions Close to Your Care

An on-site laboratory keeps the design conversation close to your care. CEREC milling, ceramic furnaces, 3D printing, digital scanning, and Digital Smile Design allow more of the restorative process to stay connected to the dentists who examined you and heard what you want changed.

That becomes important when the difference between ‘right’ and ‘almost right’ is subtle. Tooth length, translucency, contour, shade, or bite can be reviewed and refined as part of the same treatment process instead of being reduced to a set of instructions sent away.

Cosmetic Vision Backed by Restorative, Implant & Prosthodontic Care

Although the brand is closely associated with smile transformation, the Atlanta practice was built to handle much more than elective cosmetic care. Dr. Carolina Herrera, DMD, leads prosthodontic and full-mouth reconstruction, while Dr. César Cáceres, DMD, handles implant and surgical care. That range matters because the visible concern is not always the whole problem.

Together, our doctors can address the health and structural problems that often sit underneath a cosmetic concern. That matters most when appearance and function need to be solved at the same time.

What the Colombia-to-Atlanta
Story Means for Your Care

The team has grown, the technology has changed, and the practice now has a home in Atlanta. The central idea remains the same: the dentistry should fit the person, not a template.

For patients, that continuity should be visible in practical ways: a design that respects what already looks like you, enough time to understand a major recommendation, U.S.-licensed clinical care in Sandy Springs, and digital tools that let you preview or test parts of a plan before final treatment.
